At a Special-Called meeting of the Jessamine County Board of Education on Monday, July 3rd, the board named JCS Chief Operations Officer Val Gallutia as acting superintendent of JCS. Following tthe screening committee's work over the past several weeks, the board received their recommendations at a joint meeting on June 22nd. Candidate interviews will be conducted in the month of July. Former superintendent Kathy Fields retirement, effective on June 30th, made it necessary to name an acting superintendent to lead the district during the interim period.
Gallutia, a veteran educator, is beginning his 29th year of service to JCS. In an email to JCS staff he said, "I am honored to have been selected by the Jessamine County Board of Education to serve as interim superintendent. At this time, I do not know how long I will be acting in this capacity, but I am happy to assist for as long as necessary to support the board and the district during this transition." He added that it will be "business as usual" for the district during his tenure, stating, "I know that we will continue the great work that we have undertaken to ensure life-readiness for each and every student entrusted to us."
