Jessamine County High Schools Renovation Project
Growing to meet the needs of our students, our community, and the Commonwealth
As members of the Jessamine County family, we want to keep you informed about how we are preparing our students today to not only meet their future needs, but also the needs of our local community, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Whether the path after high school includes a professional certification or license, a two or four-year university program, or military service, we are committed to helping all Jessamine County Schools students find their passion and purpose in life.
What’s the project all about?
We are incredibly excited about the increased opportunities that will be available to our students through an expansion of our Career and Technical Education programs and related renovations at EJHS, WJHS, and the Jessamine Career and Technology Center. This two-year phased project will enable us to offer additional career training options for our students, including carpentry and, with the assistance of a $750,000 grant, advanced manufacturing. Both of these fields have been designated by the state as high-demand industry sectors in need of trained professionals. Through this expansion, our students will also benefit from additional opportunities for industry certifications in other high-demand professions as well.
When will this happen?
Construction is expected to take two years and the project will be completed in phases. We’ll provide periodic updates to keep you informed about the status of the project and its progress.
An invitation for bids for the construction project has gone out and bids are due in March 2019. It’s anticipated that the Jessamine County Board of Education will consider approval of the winning bid at their March 25th meeting. Once the bid has been approved and a contract signed with the general contractor, work on the project should begin within two weeks. This spring, you can expect to see work on the exterior property and parking areas at WJHS as well as construction on the Career and Technical Education addition at the rear of the school. Work will also begin at the athletic fields and facilities at both EJHS and WJHS. After school is out this summer, work will begin on the renovations to the WJHS administrative offices and cafeteria. The majority of the renovations at EJHS will start in the summer of 2020 and at JCTC in the spring of 2021. Completion of the project at all locations is anticipated in the fall of 2021.
In addition to the renovations and construction...
Although we are two years away from the implementation of the expanded programs in the new and improved facilities, a district committee has already been working on logistical and other issues to ensure that the programs will operate as smoothly as possible. Topics that the committee work is addressing include transportation, a more similar grading system across the district, and the development of a district-wide master schedule to better enable students to take more classes of interest.
Please take some time to check out the site plans and other information on the upcoming renovations and construction and read about the career pathways that we’ll be offering to all JCS high school students at four different locations. You can do all of that here.
As you can see, lots of wonderful things are happening for Jessamine students and their futures, and this work started with feedback from our community partners, including students, parents, staff, and local business owners and leaders. We’ll keep you posted on the progress of this project and please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for your support!
