Living Arts and Science Center: Every year the LASC have a Day of the Dead festival. Typically I have the 4th and 5th grade students participate in the community display, but due to the nature of the project this year only the art enrichment groups were able to participate. The students created Alters to honor a hostorical figure. The students selected Rosa Parks, George Washington, and Thomas Edison. The students had to design an alter that not only showed traditional elements of the Day of the Dead (marigolds, monarch butterflies, etc) they also had to incorportate images that were associated with their selected historical figure. The students only had a short amount of time to complete their alters, but they turned out great. Look for pictures to come soon.
