4th and 5th Grade
Reading, Math and General Intelligence Gifted Group
During the first semester, 4th and 5th grade gifted and talented students have worked on multiple activities. These activities focused on reading, math and logic/critical thinking.
The most challenging activity that students have been presented with this semester has been solving the Rubiks Cube. Our in class discussions and lessons have centered on perseverance, patience and utilizing critical thinking skills. Along with these skills we are also working on increasing problem solving stamina when presented with academic challenges
As we wrap up this unit students will spend time reflecting on the challenges presented in solving the cube and how their patience and perseverance helped them move forward toward finding the solution.
4th and 5th Grade
Science/ Technology Gifted Group
Students in the science/ technology gifted group are using the Engineering Design Process to develop a music video that our school will show prior to KPREP testing in the spring of 2017. The goal of the video is to promote positive testing behaviors.
The students in this group have been working on creating a song that will be used in background of the video. Currently, they are working on developing a storyboard to identify scenes that need to be captured to create the video. In the upcoming weeks, students will capture these scenes and create the video using iMovie. We are very excited about this project and our integration of technology and the engineering process!
