Hello and Welcome to Mrs. Norman's Fourth Grade Class!
My name is Courtney Norman and I am a fourth grade teacher at Nicholasville Elementary School here in Jessamine County. Because it seems there is always new information for parents to know about what is happening in their child's classroom, I hope this website will help you feel "in the know" and also help you be aware of what your student is learning as well. I also wanted to take this time to let you know a little more about myself.
I was born and raised in Cynthiana, Kentucky. I completed elementary school, middle school, and high school in Harrison County. This is where the majority of my family still lives. I took dance classes throughout my life and still hold a special place in my heart for dance. Throughout high school, I never would have imagined that I would choose to major in Elementary Education. I knew that I wanted to work with children but I was not sure how that would work out in my future. After wonderful advice from a special teacher I had in high school, I decided to give teaching a try and took a class in which I visited an elementary school classroom for one period each day. To my surprise, I fell in love with teaching instantly. I knew I wanted to teach in an elementary school classroom for the rest of my life. It even took me by surprise! After graduating from Harrison County High School, I moved to Wilmore, Kentucky and attended Asbury University. I learned so much about teaching and learning in the four years I attended Asbury University and I know those four years really helped me become a better teacher today.
I began my teaching career in Fayette County. I was a third grade teacher at Deep Springs Elementary School during the 2011-2012 school year. I loved teaching and knew I was doing what I was created to do, but I still desired to teach in Jessamine County. I fell in love with the Jessamine County area when I student taught at the Early Learning Village and lived in Wilmore and knew I wanted to eventually come back to Jessamine County to teach. When the opportunity opened up, I knew Nicholasville Elementary was where I wanted to be. It was such a wonderful environment that puts students first and I knew it was my dream job! It is definitely just that. I love teaching in Jessamine County and Nicholasville Elementary is the best place to teach and the best place to learn! Everyone puts students first and I could not ask for a better place to teach.
I have been married to my husband Shawn for five years and we have two little boys: River (3 years old) and Grayson (born August 2018). My family is very important to me and I talk about them often in the classroom.
Teaching will always be my passion and I know I will teach for the rest of my life. I am a lifelong learner and love learning new things! I love to spend my time learning about new teaching strategies and more engaging ways to teach my students. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to help in any way I can. I know this is going to be a great year in our class!
