I have been teaching at Nicholasville Elementary for 13 years.  I am very excited about the renovation of the gym this year.  I hope to post pictures very soon of our new and improved gym.  We have spent most of our activity time outside this year and the students have adapted very well to learning motor skills in the outdoor setting.  All grade levels have been learning about locomotor and non-locomotor movements. Activity stations focusing on specific motor skills have been popular outdoor lessons as well.  Motor skills that we have covered so far include: underhand toss, overhand throw, frisbee throw, catching, and hula hooping.

I have been so excited to be back in the gym, and so have the students, especially with the cold weather that arrived after Fall Break.
We have been busy learning the gym rules and procedures and staying as active as possible.  Fourth and 5th graders have learned a game called Ultimate Ball where passing and catching are the main motor activities.  We have focused on offensive and defensive strategies as well as teamwork and good sportsmanship.  They have also practiced ball handling and basketball dribbling in the past couple of weeks.  1st, 2nd and 3rd graders have worked on movement patterns to create a dance.  We learned a 4 part dance pattern that goes along with the music Frere Jacques. Students have also continued to practice jumping rope, basketball dribbling, and bowling.  After Thanksgiving break, we have focused on teamwork by doing some fun parachute activities.  We have had a blast!!!
