NES Principal Selection Survey, Process & Timeline

The NES Site-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council is in the process of selecting a new principal, with a goal of naming someone in the position prior to April 14, 2015. As a part of the process, the Council is seeking input from students, parents, community members, and staff to gain feedback on the attributes and qualities that these individuals desire in a new principal.  This information will be gathered through a series of focus groups and an online survey and will be used by the Council to find the best candidate to lead the Nicholasville Elementary School.

We hope you can attend one of the focus groups or give us information through the online survey. This anonymous survey will be available starting Saturday, January 31 and will close on Friday, February 6 using the following links:

Dream Out Loud Challenge

Students in grades K-6 can submit an original drawing, video, poem or essay by March 25 (postmarked by March 20) to have a chance to win a $1500 college savings account AND $1500 for our school! Their entries must answer the question: How will I change the world after college? Entries can also be submitted online at KYSaves.com/DreamOutLoud. Rules are available at the same link, and there are several copies in the office. I really think this is a worthwhile endeavor that many of our students have the potential of winning.

KET Young Writers Contest

This is the KET Young Writers Contest that I would love for our students to enter. The contest takes the form of an illustrated story for children in K-3rd and a short story for 4th-5th. Illustrated stories must be mailed or hand-delivered to KET (I’m glad to hand-deliver) before April 11th and the short stories must be typed and submitted online. Short story entry forms must be mailed or hand-delivered separately (I’ll do that too). Winners will be selected at each grade level and prizes will be awarded. Winning entries will be published on the KET website and submitted to the PBS Kids’ national writing contest. Rules, entry forms and rubrics are available at http://www.ket.org/writerscontest/  ~ Mrs. McGuire

UK Hoops Attendance Challenge! Each student who has 100% attendance during the month of January will receive 2 tickets to a University of Kentucky Women's Basketball game on March 1st.
