I am proud and excited of being the Director of Choral Activities at West Jessamine High School! A Madisonville native, I have been involved in music most of my life - as a three-time Kentucky All-State Chorus member, a three-year member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, and have been involved in many performing ensembles ever since middle school. I am a 1989 Madisonville-North Hopkins High School graduate and a Murray State University ('95, '99) alum, earning my Bachelor of Music Education - Comprehensive and Master of Music Education degrees.
This is my 28th year of teaching, with experiences of teaching middle school and high school band, elementary and middle school general music, and elementary, middle school, high school, church, community children and adult choirs, along with other subjects such as Fine Arts, Music Theory, AP Music Theory, Musical Theatre, and Theatrical Arts. I have taught in Ballard County, Henderson County, and Hopkins County before coming to Jessamine County. While directing choirs at MNHHS, my choirs have earned several district, state, and national honors and awards, such as winning Music in the Parks twice (2005 Cincinnati and 2007 Atlanta), performing at the 2011 KHSAA Girls' Sweet Sixteen Basketball Championship, and the 2008 KMEA State Conference.
Choirs here at WJHS under my direction have also earned high honors at KMEA District and State Assessments in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 as well as winning Music in the Parks in Louisville in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023. The Chamber Singers have performed at the 2020 KMEA State Conference, and the Women's Ensemble has performed at the 2023 KMEA State Conference in Louisville.
I am a member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association, and have held positions in both organizations. I was the first KMEA State Middle School Choral Chair and have served as a district president, a performance assessment manager, and a choral assessment representative. In ACDA, I have served as a past High School Repertoire and Standards Chair. I am also a member of the National Association of Public Address Announcers, and have announced basketball, football, softball, baseball, volleyball, and marching band contests.
I also serve bi-vocationally as a music and youth minister at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Nicholasville, and I am licensed and ordained as a minister of the gospel. And every now and then, I have also been involved in the summer musicals in Hopkins County, playing such parts as Jud in Oklahoma!, Marcellus in The Music Man, Daddy Warbucks in Annie, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, and Sweeney in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and I also worked with the Studio Players of Lexington performing as Vice-Principal Panch in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
I am married to my college sweetheart, Laura, and we have two children, Ezra and Piper, along with several four-legged children.
