JCS NAMES NEW WARNER ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL

Veteran Educator Comes Full Circle

Former Teacher Returns to JCS as an Administrator

(Nicholasville, KY) – David Asher has been selected as the next head principal at Hattie C. Warner Elementary School.  Asher will fill the position upon the retirement of Dr. Kim Brockman, who has led the school for the past five years.

“When we looked at the characteristics that the Warner family was seeking in a new principal, David was an incredibly good fit.  He is very student-focused and believes that families and community are essential partners in education. His philosophy is that relationships are vital to providing exceptional learning opportunities and those connections will be a priority for him,” said Superintendent Matt Moore.  “His return is an exciting homecoming for our district and under David’s leadership, Warner will continue to flourish.”

Asher has 21 years of experience in education, the first five of which were spent in Jessamine County as a music teacher at Nicholasville Elementary School.  He returns now to JCS from Washington County Schools (KY,) where he has spent the last four years as an administrator, serving both Washington County Elementary and Washington County Middle School as Assistant Principal.  Prior to that time, Asher taught music at the elementary level and both music and technology at the middle school level in Boyle County (KY.) During his various tenures, Asher has filled a variety of leadership roles, including serving as a Team Lead for the Arts and as a Faculty Representative on two school Site-Based Decision Making Councils (SBDM,) also serving on a variety of school and district steering committees.  Asher earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music Education from Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky, respectively, and holds a Master’s in Instructional Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University. Asher and his wife, Joy, have two children, Daniel 13, and Caroline, 10.

Following the announcement of Asher’s selection, he told a group gathered at the school that he was thrilled to return to JCS where his career began.  “It is so good to be back here in Jessamine County. During my interview, I told the members of your SBDM that I believe that teaching children is the most important job there is.  I look forward to doing this important work with everyone here at Warner.” Asher went on to say, “I am so excited about the opportunity to become part of your family and it is an honor to join you in the great things that we will do together.”

Moore expressed his appreciation to the members of the Warner Elementary SBDM for their diligence and hard work during the principal selection process.  Moore said, “The council utilized feedback about the attributes that students, staff, and families wanted to see in their next principal to select the ideal candidate to lead Warner.  Mr. Asher is the right person for this job and I know that he will go above and beyond to serve the best interests of the entire Warner Elementary family.”

Asher will officially assume his duties at Warner on July 1, 2019.
