School buses are rolling! As our students begin the new school year, let's all refresh our knowledge on traffic safety to ensure everyone gets to and from school safely.
🚗 A REMINDER FOR ALL DRIVERS:
Slow Down: Pay close attention to posted speed limits in school zones and residential areas.
Stay Alert: Avoid distractions and be extra watchful for children walking, biking, or waiting at the bus stop.
Know the Law: When a school bus stops, has its red lights flashing, and its stop arm extended, you MUST stop.
On a two-lane road, all traffic from both directions must stop.
On a highway with four or more lanes, only traffic following the bus must stop.
👨👩👧👦 TIPS FOR PARENTS & STUDENTS:
Wait Safely: Stand at least 6 feet (or three giant steps) away from the curb while waiting for the bus.
Wait for the Signal: Don't approach the bus until it has come to a complete stop, the doors have opened, and the driver signals that it's safe to board.
Look Both Ways: When crossing the street after getting off the bus, look left, right, and left again to make sure all traffic has stopped.
Let's work together to make this a safe and successful school year for every student across Jessamine County!
