Rod Butler

A Servant’s Heart: Welcoming Rod Butler as WJMS Principal

We are excited to officially welcome Rod Butler as the new Principal of West Jessamine Middle School. Rod joins WJMS with a clear mission: to lead with a servant’s heart and a deep commitment to transformative education.

A Unique Path to Leadership

Rod brings a rich and diverse background to WJMS, blending high-level industrial experience with a deep-rooted passion for Jessamine County Schools. Before transitioning into education, Rod spent 18 years in manufacturing leadership, an experience that shaped his belief that the strongest organizations are founded on authentic, relational leadership.

His journey in our district has been marked by a variety of impactful roles:

  • 5 Years as a PE Teacher at Brookside Elementary.

  • 2 Years as the Assistant Principal of The Providence School.

  • Coach for EJMS Football and WJMS Softball.

For Rod, being a principal is about much more than administration; it is about serving the teachers, students, and families of our community. By prioritizing "people-first" leadership, he aims to foster a culture of trust and collaboration that empowers our educators and inspires our students.

Vision for Transformation

Rod’s approach is centered on the idea that strong relationships are the catalyst for academic excellence and innovation. He believes that when a school community feels supported and heard, true growth follows.

"I believe that when we lead by serving others and investing in genuine relationships, we create the conditions for true transformation," Butler says. "I am incredibly honored to join the West Jessamine community and look forward to working alongside our talented staff to help every student reach their full potential."

Commitment to Lifelong Learning

Rod models the very dedication to education that he seeks to instill in our students. He earned his Educational Specialist degree from the University of the Cumberlands and is currently in the final stages of his academic journey, set to complete his Doctorate in Educational Leadership this December.

Beyond the Front Office

When he isn't at school or on the field, Rod stays busy with his many passions. He is an avid woodworker, a dedicated student of the Bible, and a devoted family man. He treasures time spent with his wife, Rachel, and their two children, Layla and Noah.
