As part of our learning during Black History Month, our students were introduced to Norman Lewis, an artist known for abstract expressionism, and his painting "Harlem Jazz Jamboree" during art class. They have been collaborating with their classmates to create their own versions of "Harlem Jazz Jamboree" which will soon bring lots of joy to our hallways!

During the month of February, our 1st graders have been learning about animal traits and survival during STEM class. They kicked off their unit around Groundhog's Day learning whether or not animals can really predict the weather. Students learned about the science of light and shadows. They have been enjoying listening to read aloud texts as well and learning some new vocabulary!

Our 3rd graders have been using their critical thinking skills while learning! In math, they have been exploring fractions, building fraction models with fraction tiles. Also, as part of their weather and climate unit during STEM, they have learned about the effects of natural disasters. Our 3rd graders made models of a home and then using certain materials, designed different ways to make their houses able to withstand a wind storm.

At Warner, we believe in making a difference in our community! A group of our staff members and volunteers worked together to donate and gather snacks, toiletries, hats, and gloves to show care for both children and adults who are homeless. These care bags were then donated to the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition. Thanks to our instructional assistant and After-School Program Lead, Pam Neal, for coordinating this wonderful act of kindness!

Some of our 4th graders had an amazing time at JCTC working alongside the biomedical pathway students! They dove into some exciting science experiments — from extracting DNA from strawberries to creating their very own DNA models. The highlight was playing detective and tracking down Patient 0 in an outbreak simulation. What a fun and educational experience for our students. And once again, we love our partnership with JCTC!

Our 5th graders have been studying the Revolutionary War. Our Social Studies teacher, Ms. Anders, challenged her students to turn their investigation of the Boston Massacre into a debate. The students had to decide if the soldiers were innocent or guilty. This experience was both challenging and engaging as students worked collaboratively to research and defend their points of view!

Once a week after school, some of our very talented 4th and 5th graders and our music teacher Mrs. Crockett fill our halls with beautiful music and singing! These students are rehearsing for their upcoming JCS All County Choir day where they will gather together with students from the other JCS schools for a day of music, singing and fun. They are having a blast learning new songs and getting ready for their performance!

Our students learn about our world by experiencing different cultures. Recently our first graders created dragon masks that represent good luck in the Chinese New Year during art class. They also sang some Chinese songs and danced with their dragon masks during music. We love when our specials teachers can collaborate on special projects!

Many thanks to our PTO for purchasing new playground equipment for our students to play with during recess - hula hoops, balls, sidewalk chalk, and more! Our kids are so excited! Also, our PTO treated our staff to a soup and salad lunch last week which was enjoyed by everyone. We are lucky to have such a great PTO who supports our students, staff, and families. We are always looking for more family members to join in and help with events and tasks. If you are interested, please email warnerpto0@gmail.com.

Our students represented Warner well at the JCS Superintendent’s Student Forum, where they shared valuable feedback and ideas with Superintendent Crum along with other students across the district. It was a great opportunity for students to have their voices heard and contribute to the conversation about the future of our Jessamine County schools!
