🩵988 Day | September 8 💜

Today, we recognize 988 Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and reminding everyone that support is available when it’s needed.

At West Jessamine Middle School, we want our students, families, and staff to know that you are never alone and it’s okay to ask for help.

📱 Call or text 988 to connect with trained crisis counselors who are available 24/7 to provide support during a mental health, suicide, or substance-use crisis.

🩵 Check in on one another.
💜 Listen without judgment.
🩵 Speak up when you need help.
💜Remind others that they matter.

Dear WJMS Community, Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue refining our daily arrival and dismissal routines. Thanks to your support in following traffic patterns and signage, we have already shaved 10 minutes off our transition times each day, and we aim to improve that even further by the end of the week. To keep our students safe and ensure traffic continues to flow smoothly, please review the following reminders and clarifications. Arrival & General Car Line Guidelines Pull All the Way Forward: Always pull as far forward as possible along the curb before dropping off or picking up your student. This maximizes space and keeps cars from backing up onto the main road. Keep the Passing Lane Clear: Once you have safely dropped off or loaded your student, use the left lane to carefully pass vehicles that are still loading or unloading. Designated Car Lanes: Morning: All car riders will use the front lane. Afternoon: 6th Grade Car Riders: Back car lane. Afternoon: 7th & 8th Grade Car Riders: Front car lane. Families with students in both 6th and 7th/8th grade can choose one car line or the other. Parents must make sure that all their students know which lane they will be using if the have students in multiple grade levels Dismissal & Walker Procedures For student safety and accountability, every student must ride their assigned bus, use our designated WJMS car lanes, or be officially registered as a walker. Designated Walker List: If your student plans to walk home, please contact the front office to have them added to our official walker list. This ensures only authorized students leave campus on foot. No Unauthorized Pickups at Rosenwald-Dunbar (RDES): WJMS students may not be picked up by car at RDES. The only exceptions are students participating in an RDES-hosted sport/club, students with a parent on staff at RDES, or those with prior principal approval. Walking Toward West High Neighborhoods: Mrs. Teater will guide walkers on the safest path toward RDES. Students must remain on sidewalks once reaching RDES and cross Wilmore Road strictly at designated crosswalks with a crossing guard. Walking Toward Allie Run / Lone Oak Neighborhoods: Students should exit through the downstairs doors near the bus loop and proceed to their neighborhoods, always using crossing guards when crossing any street. If your student is a walker and you would like to pick them up before they make it home, please remember that they cannot be picked up on Jessamine County Schools property in an unauthorized location. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and dedication to keeping every Colt safe each day! Respectfully, Dr. Butler

This is an exciting opportunity for students!! 🌎 Please see the message below from Mr. Cobb about how to get your student involved.

Hello JCS Families!

My name is Jared Cobb, and I have been the PE teacher at WJMS for 11 years now. My wife, Morgan Cobb, has been an Art teacher in our district for 8 years. We are incredibly excited to announce our upcoming trip for students and families to CHINA June of 2029!!

I have been blessed to lead students and their families to amazing places all over the world! These have been some of the best memories of my life, from Japan in 2024, to Australia/New Zealand 2025, to Italy Switzerland and France 2026! I also can’t control my excitement looking forward to my upcoming trips. This coming summer 2027, we will be traveling to Greece, island hoping around the Mediterranean! Fall break of 2027 we will be traveling to Ireland and Scotland, visiting castles! Summer of 2028 we will be traveling to South Africa for an authentic African safari, and spend some time with penguins in Cape Town!

Please join me at Brookside Elementary School, on September 14th at 6:30, in the Library for an informational meeting on China, with a brief highlight of my other upcoming trips at the start of the meeting. Space fills up quickly, spots are first come first serve and we have filled to capacity on several trips so far. The meeting and for a short period of time after, will offer a $300 discount per person for those that sign up. Please use the link below to RSVP for the meeting. Can’t make the meeting? Use the link to request information, so I can sent it to you after the meeting is over!

I look forward to meeting many of you! Hope to see you then!

Sincerely Jared Cobb

Dear WJMS Families,

We are thrilled to welcome our incoming 6th graders for Middle School 101 tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM! Doors will open at 8:45 AM to begin accepting students.

Please review the important details below regarding schedule logistics and our updated traffic procedures.

Arrival & Event Schedule

8:45 AM – Drop-Off: Doors open; arriving students will head directly to the gym.
Morning Program: Students will dismiss from the gym to their advisory classes, learn key expectations for the first week, and rotate through their schedules to meet their teachers.
Lunch: Lunch is provided for all students and will be eaten in their classrooms.
12:00 PM – Dismissal: Student pickup begins promptly at noon.
Important Car Lane & Traffic Updates: To keep traffic moving efficiently and ensure student safety, please note our updated traffic flow:

One-Way Traffic: Traffic flow around the school is strictly one-way.
Staff Parking: All front parking spaces are reserved for staff. Please do not park out front; remain in the car loop.
Drop-Off Zone: Cones will clearly mark the active car lanes. Drop-off begins at the far end of the front sidewalk—please pull forward as far as possible before letting your student out.
Lane Merging: There will be 3 lines merging into 1 line near the first curve by the bus lane. Staff members will be on-site to assist with merging.
Visitor Access Lane: Please keep the single inside lane clear at all times so vehicles can access visitor parking.
Our team has been working hard to prepare the building, and we cannot wait to give our newest Colts a preview of middle school life before the official first day on Monday!

Note: Please watch for additional updates this Friday afternoon about the first week of school.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning!

Warm regards,

West Jessamine Middle School Administration & Staff
